Our partner, Vehicles for Change, has introduced a new Executive Director of Vehicles for Change Detroit, Ms. Phaedra Wainaina. As a proud Detroit native, Phaedra has exhibited a longstanding commitment to the city and its residents. Phaedra’s strong desire to serve is rooted in her belief that social welfare of any community begins with service. Phaedra is a graduate of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Wayne State University Law School. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in finance, accounting, and taxation at Wayne State University.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Phaedra has been afforded the opportunity to pursue a variety of employment opportunities in the community. In 2014 Phaedra pioneered the Pontiac School District (PSD) College Advising Department where she negotiated contracts and funding agreements on behalf of PSD College Programming and increased PSD’s scholarship dollars by 400%. Following her position as a College Advisor, Phaedra returned to Pontiac School District to develop their Dual Enrollment program, providing incentive plans to assist students with academic and career plan creation.
Additionally, Phaedra is the Co-Founder and Vice Chair of QUAD College Advising, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. QUAD seeks to assist traditionally underrepresented students in the metro-Detroit area with the college application process through interactive labs (workshops) mentoring, and the creation of social spaces conducive to information and advice sharing.
Please join us in welcoming Phaedra as she joins a great organization with Vehicles for Change.
